About Me
Hello, I'm Van Nguyen. I'm a UX/UI designer based in San Jose, California, with a passion for creating meaningful, user-centric experiences. My work is driven by curiosity, resilience, and a desire to make a real impact. As someone who thrives on challenges, I enjoy tackling complex problems and designing solutions that truly enhance users' lives.
My Journey to UX Design
Eight years ago, I moved to the United States, navigating a new environment while working in manufacturing to support myself. Although I appreciated the stability, I yearned for more meaningful work and a chance to make a broader impact. This determination led me to quit my manufacturing job and enroll in college, pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Design Studies with a minor in Interaction Design.

To reach this milestone, I had to complete all the ESL courses to build my foundation. Despite the added challenge, I graduated in just four years, earning summa cum laude honors from San Jose State University. Alongside my studies, I also completed the Google UX Certification to deepen my understanding of UX principles and strengthen my skill set. On weekends, I worked as a supervisor at Tastea, a boba shop, balancing work, study, and personal growth. This journey not only shaped my skills but also reinforced my determination and adaptability, qualities I now bring to my design career.
Skills & Design Philosophy
I’ve developed a strong foundation in user research, heuristic evaluation, user flows, information architecture, and prototyping. These skills, combined with my user-centric mindset, allow me to create intuitive and impactful designs. My design philosophy revolves around enhancing users' experiences by focusing on their needs and goals, while balancing business objectives and technical constraints. I thrive on learning, growing, and solving problems creatively, ensuring that every design decision I make aligns with a clear purpose and vision.
Hobbies & Creative Inspiration
Outside of design, I channel my creativity into building miniature houses and coffee shop models. This hobby not only fuels my love for crafting but also strengthens my problem-solving and attention-to-detail skills. Each project involves thoughtful planning, a keen eye for detail, and a deep sense of curiosity—qualities that translate directly into my UX design work. By merging my passion for design with my personal interests, I bring a unique perspective and creativity to every project I take on.
