This project aims to demonstrate the power of using metaphors in design to convey complex emotions, thoughts, and perspectives by delving into the nuances of the human experience and recognizing universally relatable themes.
For this project, I watched a short video titled '80th Birthday Party,' which made me reflect on what I want my life to look like when I’m 80. It brought up the question: How can I piece together the puzzle of my life? Since moving to America, I’ve been juggling school, work, and adapting to a new environment. However, I’ve noticed that in pursuing these goals, I’ve grown distant from the people who matter most to me. This realization has inspired me to find a way to balance my ambitions with maintaining meaningful connections, bringing the different parts of my life back together.
I started sketching out my ideas to brainstorm and figure out how to bring them into the design.
For my final design, I used an image of puzzle pieces I captured to symbolize different parts of my life. I also incorporated abstract lines, drawn digitally on Procreate, to represent the chaos and confusion of adapting to a new life in America.
Final Design
Exploring the use of puzzles in my design allowed me to symbolize my life as a collection of puzzle pieces, each representing a connection that I may have lost along the way.
